Applying the Realization Duality

Background

The realization duality (rD) was discovered during studies of a duality pattern found in one structural hierarchy. The pattern is : A-B-B-A-A-B-B.

Based on a review of many structural hierarchies, the pattern was confirmed and its A and B poles were named:

A: individual-centred realization
and
B: context-mediated realization.

An explanation of the pattern was based on psychosocial pressures known to be characteristic of the groupings.

The crucial finding is that all B-related pressures originate from a terminal of the Root Hierarchy:  RL7-Selflessness and RL1-Performance. The other pressures all generate an A-pole.

Given this link to psychosocial pressures, it is possible to examine other taxonomic structures and identify their pattern—such as it might be— by looking directly at the pressure.

Structural Hierarchy

The patterning of pressures is explained here.
Full details of the pole assignments can be found in the original investigation.

  G1 G2 G3 G4 G5 G6 G7
1°: Identity Autonomy Understanding Performance Certainty Acceptability Well-Being Selflessness
2°: Operation Understanding Performance Certainty Acceptability Well-Being Selflessness Autonomy
Realization Pole A (individual) B (context) B (context) A (individual) A (individual) B (context) B (contextt)

The pattern is:   A-B-B-A-A-B-B.
This seems meaningful, but the meaning still awaits elucidation.

Primary Hierarchy

Pressures in Primary Hierarchies appear to mirror that in the Root Hierarchy, as analysed previously. 2° pressures have not been investigated and identified in Primary Hierarchies. Using the pattern of 1° pressures, the realization duality can be mapped as follows:

Levels in
the PHs
Proposed
Root Level Input
Psychosocial
Pressure
Realization
Duality
Label
L7s Willingness-RL7 Selflessness Context-mediated B
L6s Purpose-RL6 Autonomy Individual-centred A
L5s Communication-RL5 Understanding Individual-centred A
L4s Experience-RL4 Well-being Individual-centred A
L3s Change-RL3 Acceptability Individual-centred A
L2s Inquiry-RL2 Certainty Individual-centred A
L1s Action-RL1 Performance Context-mediated B

The L1 to L7 pattern is:   B-A-A-A-A-A-B.

This seems meaningful in the same way that the Root Hierarchy is meaningful: commencement at the top allows for unbounded creativity for psychosocial functioning, while at the bottom is the primal nexus where the rubber of psychosocial reality hits the road of empirical reality.

Principal Typology

Pressures in Principal Typologies have recently been reviewed systematically and both 1° and 2° pressures are now definitively identified. The patterning here relates to the unfolding duality.

It is possible to use the rule explained above to allocate realization poles as follows:

  L'1 L'2 L'3 L'4 L'5 L'6 L'7
1°: Identity Autonomy Certainty Performance Understanding Acceptability Selflessness Well-Being
2°: Operation Certainty Performance Understanding Acceptability Selflessness Well-Being Autonomy
Realization Pole A (individual) B (context) B (context) A (individual) B (context) B (context) A (individual)

The L'1 to L'7 pattern is:   A-B-B-A-B-B-A.

This seems meaningful. More Types require context mediation than allow for individual-centred realization. Further investigation is required.

Spiral

The Spiral order emerges from the Typology through a conversion of Type to Mode, equivalent to Content to Context. This leads to a re-ordering as shown below, but the pressures remain the same.

Pressure in the Spiral modes were originally developed here due to a limited appreciation of the Typologies.

Spiral Stage PH'
Type
Spiral
Tree L
Corresponding
Root Level
Psychosocial Pressure Label
φ7 L'5 CL7 Change-RL3
Acceptability B (individual)
φ6 L'7 CL6 Experience-RL4 Well-Being B (individual)
φ5 L'2 CL5 Inquiry-RL2 Certainty B (individual)
φ4 L'1 CL4 Purpose-RL6 Autonomy B (individual)
φ3 L'4 CL3 Communication-RL5 Understanding B (individual)
φ2 L'6 CL2 Willingness-RL7 Selflessness A (context)
φ1 L'3 CL1 Action-RL1 Performance A (context)

The φ1 to φ7 pattern is:   A-A-B-B-B-B-B

This seems meaningful: strengthening the primal means demands an initial focus and dependence on context. Everything after that is up to the creativity of each individual.

Q-Arenas

There are 7 Q-arenas in each Domain. The pattern of pressures of these Arenas have been developed and subsequently reviewed and revised. It is noticeable that there is no pattern of 1° and 2° pressures as found in structural hierarchies and in principal typologies. No pattern was expected.

It is possible to use the rule explained above to allocate realization poles as follows:

  Q1 Q2 Q3 Q4 Q5 Q6 Q7
1°: Identity Performance Certainty Acceptability Well-Being Understanding Autonomy Selflessness
2°: Operation Understanding Performance Certainty Selflessness Autonomy Well-Being Acceptability
Realization Pole A (context) A (context) B (individual) A (context) B (individual) B (individual) A (context)

The Q1 to Q7 pattern is:   A-A-B-A-B-B-A.

This does not seem immediately meaningful—but more investigations with specific sets of Q-Arenas may illuminate the finding.

Further investigations will take place elsewhere.
