Your Starting Position

As explained, ambitions flow from aspirations, and everyone who values self-reliance has aspirations and ambitions: extremely modest in some cases, shared with the bulk of the population for many, and progressively intense in the remainder.

Reminder:Closed Aspiration is an expression of an ideal (PH6G35), a fundamental vehicle of goodness (RsH"G12), and essential in ethical choice (PH'6uD). For a grounded use, see organizational achievement (PH'1CHK-L6). 

You will find it natural to determine over time reasonable aspirations and ambitions that can serve as a guide to finding an appropriate place in society. As you learn more about yourself and as your social world evolves, both aspirations and ambitions may well change.

In relation to the persona presented by another, it is always wise to sense or learn about their aspirations and ambitions, particularly if these are likely to come into conflict with yours. Also, be aware that others will be looking at you in the same way.

Production of Well-Being

GL7 GL6

The psychosocial pressures provide a useful perspective for this investigation. G7-Aspirations are driven by selflessness, and G6-Affluence is driven by well-being.

Life is never easy, but everybody seeks well-being in the form that is meaningful to them. No-one wants unnecessary disruption, conflict, or distress.

Aspirations-G7B can support your own sense of well-being and potentially the well-being of others. Well-being, in general, has two sources, both of which come into play at G6.

■ your creativity
■ your confidantes and wider social network.

Well-being does depend on financial conditions, but that in turn is largely dependent on creativity and social relationships.

The quality of your aspirations and ambitions creates meaning for your network and is a constructive focus in mobilizing their support when required. The reverse holds true as well, support from your socio-economic milieu gives meaning and substance to your aspirations.

So GL7B GL6S is provisionally labelled Meaning.

Your persona will be marked by your sense of purpose.

Aspirations do more than just stimulate you to become creative in their service, they provide an inspiring focus. So well-developed aspirations fire up creativity. Aspirations may not be so developed, and then any effort to be creative can inspire their refinement to provide direction and value.

So GL7B GL6P is provisionally labelled Inspiration.

Your persona will be marked by a practical inventiveness.

ClosedAspirations for Power

If your aspiration is primarily power-centred, you will be focused on power as the route to wealth. Your dominating and controlling ways will lead to difficulties and distress all round. You are likely to become distrustful of associates and be willing to behave unpleasantly or even vindictively. Your subordinates will suffer anxiety and psychosomatic illness.

Your persona will tend to be crude and coarse.

GL7 GL5

Attempts to use personal aspirations to control and influence others or focus analyses of situations is not a good idea. In personal terms, others will simply react and likely reject you. In practical terms, aspirations are too abstract and idealistic to specify analyses. Once you have mobilized support (G6S), or created a response (G6P), the picture clarifies and mediated influence from GL7B is possible.

So the channel GL7 GL5 is inappropriate and non-requisite.

GL7 GL4

Your aspirations ought to steer your management of exchanges: especially the networks you participate in, the core-groups that you form, the hierarchical organizations you join.

You have to accept the markets that exist, but your functioning within any market should be governed by your aspirations and related ambitions.

So GL7B GL4B is provisionally labelled Steering.

Dissemination of Well-Being

As proposed earlier, the two GL6-Affluence Centres are linked because each encourages the other. Both allow ambition to be controlled in the service of well-being and foster G5-influence and satisfactory G4-exchanges.

GL6P GL6S is provisionally labelled Encouragement.

Your persona will be marked by a positive spirit.

GL6 GL5

Given that each Level is bipolar, there are 4 possible Channels—but it seems that only 2 are requisite.

With socio-economic support (G6S), you can identify issues and propose options (G5S) that otherwise might be regarded as too self-serving or seem in some way controversial and undesirable.

Often your clarity about the key issues and possible options will help you mobilize the socio-economic support that you need.

So GL6S GL5S is provisionally labelled Assistance.

Generating a creative response (GL6P) activates those about you and this opens the door to influencing their choices (GL5P).

The need to influence the choices of others stimulates creative thinking that will move matters forward for them as well as for yourself.

So GL6P GL5P is provisionally labelled Invigoration.

Your persona will be marked by a forcefulness that activates and channels others.

GL6 GL4

Maintaining affluence is fundamentally dependent on how you manage your social exchanges.

You mobilize your socio-economic support (G6S) to enable you to participate in exchanges (G4B) and manage interactions there successfully. Of course, this support is mobilized from the various markets, hierarchies, networks and core-groups with which you are involved.

So exchange interactions develop and clarify what support is possible and available when called upon. Conversely in mobilizing support, you cultivate the various exchange systems so that they become functional resources.

So GL6S GL4B is provisionally labelled Cultivation.

Your persona will be marked by being well-connected based on nurturing relationships.

Any creative response to a situation must be applied within a market, a hierarchy, a network or a core-group, where it will generate an outcome which is, hopefully, what you intend. In any case, creative ideas provoke your counter-parties or colleagues, sometimes negatively.

Issues, stalemates, frictions and opportunities emerging in the exchanges often require more than routine management, and so provoke the generation of a creative response.

So GL6P GL4B is provisionally labelled Provocation.

Your persona will be marked by stimulating inputs to your contacts and groups.

Constructive Acceptable Influence

As proposed earlier, the two GL5-Influence Centres are linked because each guides the other. At this level ambition must be grounded by social realities and not break the bounds of acceptability.

GL5P GL5S is provisionally labelled Guidance.

Your persona will be marked by an ability to stay focused.

GL5 GL4

G5-influence exists to ensure that G4-exchanges are satisfactory, working for yourself as well as accepted by others.

Identifying issues and options (QG5S) opens up opportunities for self-advancement or reveals threats that need to be explored and potentially handled through management within one more of the specific exchange arenas (G4B).

Management of exchanges in those arenas will regularly raise areas of interest or concern that call for exploration of the underlying issues and highlighting of options that you prefer.

So GL5S GL4B is provisionally labelled Exploration.

Your persona will be marked by your analytical approach.

Whenever you can influence choices by others (QG5P), your management of exchanges (QG4B) will be significantly eased. Such influence forms a solid base for advancing your ambitions. For example, if you influence your boss's choice (hierarchy) or a counter-party's (market), then you can manage subsequent interactions well.

Your effective handling of exchanges in the various arenas should provide a practical foundation for you to influence the choices of others, both immediately and potentially in relation to your longer-term ambitions. For example, if you manage a core-group or network well, you are likely to get yourself established and become influential

So GL5P GL4B is provisionally labelled Establishment.

Your persona will be marked by your presence as established within the relevant social setting.

GL5 GL3

At this point, both the lower and the upper sections are complete, leading to a framework over-dependent on the management of exchanges. Click the thumbnail to see.

These two sections can be joined by channels that link GL5-Influence that grounds ambition to GL3-Exposure that orients interaction. Given that each Level is bipolar, there are 4 possible Channels—but it seems that only 2 are requisite.

Identifying issues and options (GL5S) from your preferred perspective allows you to become convinced that a particular contest is worth entering (GL3P).

When you enter a contest, you will use your influence to portray it in a certain way to justify your efforts and to protect yourself if the outcome is not in your favour. That means becoming convinced about the options open to you.

So GL5S GL3P is provisionally labelled Conviction.

Your persona will be marked by your willingness to put your money where your mouth is, so you will appear committed.

ClosedWhy not GL5S↔ GL3S?

Your influence on the choices of others (GL5P) is unlikely to go unnoticed, and the resulting public exposure must be handled (GL3S). Such exposure sensitizes you to the use of your power.

Conversely, your need to handle public exposure sensitizes you in regard to influencing the choices of others.

So GL5P GL3S is provisionally labelled Sensitization.

Your persona will be marked by your sensitivity.
