A Self-Reliant Persona

Orientation

During the investigation of character (PsH4) within the Experience Domain-RL4/PH4, different manifestations of the self were identified as being generated by the need to use one's individuality in social life. Click on the upper thumbnail at right to see the 5 forms of self.

The public image, social role or visible identity a person adopts is commonly referred to as their «persona». It is a variety of social self-PsH4G3. The persona that manifests at home or on holiday are likely to be rather different to the persona at work.

The frameworks in this Satellite are more or less continuously operative and so they naturally lead to a specific variety of social self that we can label as a «self-reliant persona».

The self-reliant persona is not an option if you value self-reliance, and you are determined to feel yourself a success in everyday life.

Any development and management of your «self» requires thought, and this occurs within the four realms of psychosocial reality (PsH4G4): to see, click on the lower thumbnail. It has been evident throughout this Satellite that getting ahead in society takes a great deal of thought, mostly within the socio-emotional and intellectual realms.

At the most elemental level, the self-reliant persona is constituted by ideas-PH4L4, intuitions-PH4L5 and identifications-PH4L6. But where do these elements come from? The answer appears to be from the requirements for looking out for yourself in society as identified in the previous section.

These requirements, slightly modified, are the determinants of a self-reliant persona , and we can briefly consider why this is the case before plunging in to the details.

Approach to Analysis

The final framework in the sequence that completes any Q-Arena is the Tree pattern developed from the Groupings in the Structural Hierarchy. In this case, we have determined:

• The Q-Typology (PH'6Q4t)Ways to interact for benefit.
• The Q-Hierarchy (PH'6Q4H)Cooperating for results.
• The Q-Spiral (PH'6Q4C)Strengthening financial security.
• The Q-Spiral-derived Tree (PH'6Q4CHK): Determinants of social standing.
• The Q-Spiral Structural Hierarchy (PH'6Q4CsHLooking out for yourself.

The task now is to clarify the Q-Spiral Structural Hierarchy Tree (PH'6Q4CsHK), and it is a general principle that the final Tree in a structural hierarchy triplet is the context or field within which the original Tree i.e. social standing operates.

In the various Q-arenas of associating (organizations, societal institutions and philosophy schools), the spiral structural hierarchy trees have appeared to be about participation.

In this Q-arena of governing, the self-reliant persona is also about a person's participation in society which is developed via social standing. This both validates a general theme and confirms the choice of name.
