Reversal of Oscillation in Willingness-PH7

The oscillation here is still provisional. It seems to be about social relationships perhaps especially with those who are not kin or community. Does the element encourage you to mix with others and be integrated? Or does it foster dissociation and division within a society? Does it tend to attract people to you (and vice versa)? Or do you merely hope for acceptance by others and therefore foster acceptance of them? Are you moving with convention or idiosyncratically? Are you identified or separate?

This polarization is captured here as:
association (ODD) v dissociation (EVEN).

Repeat Trying-L1

Trying-L1 naturally fosters association because support is always desirable when you are attempting something. The notion is captured in the phrase many hands makes light work. The idea of helping someone, assumes that they are trying already without you. Repetition means that you may need the patience of others in the group.

However:  If you want to try «in your own way», then you will dissociate from others trying to help. «Your way» refers to using your own natural methods and personal techniques. Contributions from others will often tend to disrupt those.

ConversionDissociation when trying is based on using a technique-L3 and this lies in the realm of Action-PH1.

Review Beliefs-L2

Believing-L2 naturally fosters dissociation because beliefs belong within value systems that divide people. Each person incorporates distinct and often incompatible beliefs. Reviewing beliefs is liable to be threatening and divisive in regard to the relevant group. Even within seemingly united groups, like scientific disciplines, people may have intense differences about details. 'Isms' often split or contain divisions of great intensity e.g. in religions, political ideologies.

However:  If you actively associate with others around the review of beliefs, regardless of what emerges there is sure to be conflict and the release of intense emotions.

ConversionAssociation around believing is based on generating emotion-L3, which lies in the realm of Experience-PH4.

Encourage Seeing-L3

Seeing-L3 naturally fosters association, because there is a wish to share and to get confirmation about what is seen.

However:  If you see something that others do not, then that sets you apart from them. The dissociation created by such seeing is due to your emphasis on certain values that may be relevant to your own work or a personal endeavours.

ConversionSeeing that dissociates is an expression of preference and emphasis i.e. internal priority-L3 in the realm of Purpose-PH6.

Welcome Compromise-L4

Compromising-L4 naturally fosters dissociation because it comes into play in the presence of an inherent difference of interests and associated attitudes and opinions.

However: A person may compromise in order to foster association with another person or group. This happens when you consider a bigger picture and see something in the other's position that is relevant or significant for matters outside the present issue.

ConversionCompromising and yet associating involves seeing-L3, which is in the realm of Willingness-PH7.

Tolerating Risk-L5

Risking-L5 naturally fosters association because involving others enables toleration by reducing the likely harm or loss. Because there is a sharing of anticipated benefits, others experience an access to an opportunity, also at tolerable risk. The maxim better the devil you know than the devil you don't applies to reducing risk by remaining in an existing association.

However:  If in tolerating risk, you actively dissociate from another or a group, then you must be comparing trade-offs: the costs or harms and gains or benefits that will accrue.

ConversionRisking when part of dissociation involves comparing-L3, which is in the realm of Inquiry-PH2.

Power Participation-L6

Participating-L6 naturally occurs within a group setting. However, it is about bringing personal values to the table and making a unique contribution towards the group's goals. So it fosters dissociation. Each powerful participant is set apart from others, including those who stand aside. Possibly commitment to the group also entails dissociation from your other concerns or even from yourself.

However:  If during participation, you deliberately associate with others in the group, then you will become part of a faction. The faction will be focused on a specific form or direction of improvement, typically not shared widely.

ConversionParticipating in association with others who differ in view and compete for influence is essential to organise improvement-L3, which is in the realm of Change-PH3.

Extend Trust-L7

Trusting-L7 naturally fosters association, because it removes the fears that people have of each other and creates a sense of comfort and confidence. Extension of trust to new situations or to new individuals enlarges a circle of associates.

However:  If trusting leads to active dissociation, then that will be regarded as signifying something in the relationship or social group.

ConversionTrusting accompanied by dissociation is a sign-L3 in the realm of Communication-PH5.
